Jiraiya, first appearing in Naruto Shippuden episode 52, is a legendary Sannin, a title given to three of the most powerful ninja of their generation in the Hidden Leaf Village. He was trained by the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi.

Known as the "Toad Sage" due to his mastery of toad summoning and sage mode, Jiraiya travelled the world extensively, seeking knowledge and power. His travels led him to various locations, including Amegakure (the Hidden Rain Village), where he encountered and trained the future members of the Akatsuki.

Jiraiya played a crucial role in Naruto Uzumaki's life, becoming his mentor and teaching him the Rasengan, a powerful chakra-based technique. He also helped Naruto control the Nine-Tailed Fox's chakra. Despite his eccentric personality and self-proclaimed title of "Super Pervert," Jiraiya was a dedicated shinobi who prioritized the safety of the Hidden Leaf Village and the well-being of his students. He was eventually killed by his former student, Nagato (Pain), while gathering information on the Akatsuki.
